Three Weeks Wait for a Youtube Clip

So I've stolen this very directly from UK:Resistance, it's perhaps the geekiest thing I've posted on here yet (which is saying quite something), and it's probably the most pathetic way possible to return from not posting for three weeks. But I promise I'll explain (in try-too-hard words) why February has been such a slow month for blog updates in a forthcoming episode. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy Dan Bull's Generation Gaming:

Penguin Classic Videogames

Olly Moss is a genius. How good are these?

"Half-life is a game about crowbars and teleporting!"

Spot the Klobb.

A suitably crude 3D Link, with Triforce on his temple

Exclamation marks (and to a lesser extent cigarettes) are important in MGS...

"Topography VS radio VS scary monster static."

These made me think:

a) Perhaps I should play the original Silent Hill.
b) If these came in poster format I'd have no shame putting one on my wall.
c) Are publishers missing a trick by not putting more effort into their "platinum"/bestseller re-releases? Why not have this kind of striking, iconic imagery on games that have already sold well and have a reputation?

In a similar vein, his remakes of classic film posters are also well worth a look.

Pst, you wanna buy some ice cream?

I have so far spectacularly failed to finish the two articles I took last week off from this blog to finish. A combination of alcohol abuse, busyness at work, and a worrying lack of inspiration have conspired against me. It also hasn't helped that I get pathetically precious about my choice of words when writing for someone else for the first time, and typically end up spending an hour writing and re-writing the same paragraph about sixteen times.

Microprose made a lot of the best PC games of this era

Despite my inactivity this past week, one of my first ever game reviews has appeared on UpToJump. The site is connected to Be Excellent to Each Other, a forum I often lurk on, which about a year ago asked for reviews from its members for a games site they might one day get around to creating. Nothing happened for a very long time and I'd completely forgotten that I'd ever given them a review, but the site has now arrived, and although it's fairly obvious that it's a work in progress, I'd say it shows some promise.

Caviar with raspberries and chillies on pizza. YUM.

As for my review, I find it a little bit painful to read. Not only is it pretty pedestrian, but I hope I've now learnt better than to start sentences with words like "ostensibly". But I'm pleased that the short list of websites I can say I've written for is growing, and assuming I get my act together in the next couple of days, there may be two more names to add to it by the end of this week.
